Welcome to Center for Educational Partnerships

In April 2002, the University of California, Merced, created a single, comprehensive student academic preparation and educational partnerships (SAPEP) unit called the Center for Educational Partnerships (CEP).

The Center for Educational Partnerships was established to effect long-range improvement in the education of Central San Joaquin Valley students and ultimately increase the number of area students eligible to attend institutions of higher education.

Using the recommendations made in the University of California’s Strategic Review Panel on UC Educational Outreach as a guide, the Center for Educational Partnerships’ success has primarily come from its ability to provide student, school and parent-centered services that seek to “connect the disconnect” between the “efforts to reform K-12 and the University’s efforts to ensure a diverse student body.”

To date, the Center for Educational Partnerships has grants from the following agencies, foundations and businesses:

  • California Student Aid Commission (funds the CEP Parent Empowerment Program);
  • United States Department of Education (funds the CEP Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Program (GEAR UP) and Educational Talent Search (ETS) Program);
  • California Department of Education (partially funds the CEP Data Analysis and Evaluation Program);
  • Paramount Farming Company (funds the expansion of UC Scholars EAOP to the Delano, Calif., region);
  • PG&E (funds academic enrichment activities for UC Scholars EAOP);
  • SBC Pacific Bell (partially funds the CEP Data Analysis and Evaluation Program); and
  • SH Cowell Foundation (funds the expansion of UC Scholars EAOP to the Avenal, Calif., region).
